Are You Winning Your Daily Work Routine Like This? (+ Worksheet)
Literally build success into your working day with task and time management!
You're a creative or service-based online entrepreneur…
And as such, you are a member of the minority population of persons who actually enjoy what they do. Your weekdays (and let's face it--some weekends, too) are full to bursting with your many varied to-do items from your daily lists of tasks, engagements scheduled in your calendar, and obligations sustaining the functioning of the awesome business that you've built This, in turn, means that you simply cannot afford for trivial or distracting things to take away from your time available for maintaining your business operations, as time is forever your most valuable and precious non-renewable resource.
Sometimes, with a smile to yourself at the day's close, you log off weary but satisfied at another full day's worth of business handled and now placed safely behind you. You recall the exact nature of your daily work load and often wonder just how you were able to see it all through, even though there are always the inevitable loose ends remaining to be neatly tied up at some other time. The large expenditure of effort required to accomplish the jobs within your role is not lost on you. But, how you manage it all is still a marvel.
Or is it really all that astonishing?.. You clearly aren't the sole figure capable of running your business successfully on a day-to-day level. There are literal scores of others seated with their laptops at their workstations accomplishing the same feat as you to the same level of their own satisfaction. So, it isn't a secret then, how to best manage the time available inside of one workday to maximize the potential for productivity. It just happens to not be widely taught and shared enough so as to provide us all an ample education on the subject. Well, I will attempt to address just that here, here as I wax on my hard-won discoveries in daily time management for work.
Firstly, know that we each are given the same amount of time inside of one hour as the next person is given.
But, what we each manage to accomplish within that one hour is as varied as the many different types of roles for which this helpful guide can apply to in assistance. Knowing that going forward, there still needs to be brought about a sort of commonality onto which following lessons and guidance can be appropriately placed.
That common act among all creative and service-based online entrepreneurs is the practice of optimally dividing the workday into such blocks of time that both serve to meet the daily business needs required from its owner, and sees that these tasks are performed in a flow that allows for their timely completion and whole business sustainability.
Creating a daily routine can be quite simple with some certain strategies in place. And as the business owner is the most closely related to the workload dedicated to the daily functioning of the business, it should then be that business owner who carries out this process to establish the daily routine for all others to adhere to.
First, the CEO is to construct a list of every single daily to-do item, task, or responsibility necessary to be completed during every typical, full workday. Before moving on, there is the optional step to add time estimates for the approximate time needed to finish each task. Once the final list of daily tasks is finished, the CEO should then classify each item on the daily work list according to a corresponding time block category.
In the case of the business' owner in the role of the CEO, I suggest the following different blocks to have definite start and end times as work assigned to the CEO role is dedicated to its proper block for that day: Start of Day, CEO Time, Email and Correspondence Time 1, Deep Work 1, Break, Email and Correspondence Time 2, Deep Work 2, Finish-up Time, and End of Day.
As you can see in the image above of a sample daily routine that I drafted for an example CEO, these different time blocks can all exist together and fit nicely inside of one work day's time. And if we, as creative and service-based online entrepreneurs, take into account most of our assigned to-do items and various responsibilities during a typical work day, we will come to realize that they all generally can fit into one of the above prescribed blocks of time. More than that though, these particular dedicated time blocks were created specifically to address the timely completion of all of the most significant daily business tasks related to core operations and sustainability. They assure that you are able to "get the whole job done" during your work day among all fronts.
This is actually an exercise from my own personal practices in time and task management for my business, Cheniece Patrick OBM.
