How Embracing Your Energy Patterns Leads to Clarity & Ease
Allowing your rhythms and routines to shape a more intentional, joyful business
Hello visionary!
There are snow showers before twilight, here in the Deep South where this happens only every once in a while. And it's as if the kids know because they both decided to wake within minutes of each other, loud with cranky tears of fatigue. "Well, take yourself back to sleep," I want to tell them (and did tell them both). "Do it while it's easy to do, and for as long as possible..." I would like to add as a recovered insomniac. *Knocks on wood.*
The ditches at the far end of the yards along my neighborhood streets are visibly becoming more densely covered by white sheets of ice, and it's just a bit after 3AM by now. Thankfully, the schools are closed and my errand got cancelled the night before, so today looks to be all free for me while my husband continues to work from home as usual. Maybe I'll even get a significant degree of work done myself.
It's such a pleasure to experience the cadence of life's happenings aligning with the levels of our natural energy cycles. The ease this invites into our habits and doings is something I truly treasure. And as such, I've designed and implemented a gentle morning routine that honors this fact everyday before I sign on to begin working.
Before children, it was common for me to not naturally wake a minute before 9AM. Unless work or some other appointment required of me otherwise, I would go to bed around midnight and not naturally wake until 8 or 9 hours later. My body's rhythms look much different now. I wouldn't be able to tolerate that kind of schedule today.
I'm an early bird by nature and I feel my most energized in the early morning. I'm also a Splenic Projector by Human Design, and sustaining my energy levels throughout the whole day takes a bit of skillful balance. I don't function best in a mode of hustle, and I don't have access to a consistent energy source of my own. I have to strategically exert myself with careful intent... I opt to wait to be invited into situations that require my skills and gifts in effort to conserve my energetic supply from being constantly drawn from. And I am able to follow my success very nicely (and easily) in this sustainable way.
Today, you'll see me naturally rise anywhere from 5:30 to 7AM. If one of the children wakes up (always loudly!) before that time, then I get up with them also. Fun. My husband treks out a short distance away to secure two sources of caffeine to energize us, or I'll have a hot tea from my collection before I prepare a quick and easy breakfast for our two children.
With a cooling tea or a can of mango-flavored Venom energy soda, I sit at my workstation and open up my Blue Sky planner to the marker indicating today's (or rather yesterday's) date.

I spend some intentional and thoughtful time reviewing and adjusting the events, appointments, and errands that are marked inside for my whole week. Today's affairs have all been crossed out and replaced with "SNOW DAY ♥", for example.
If I happen to be awake before the kids, I then like to spend some time at my altar in meditation or ritual. Mine is a type of ancestral altar outfitted with an offering, candles, my crystals, pendulums and a reading board, and a deck or two of my Tarot cards. I also sometimes keep my journal and some lit incense going there. If there's time, and after some grounding and aligning, I like to either pull 1 to 3 cards from my favorite Tarot deck, or consult one of my pendulums with a few questions. I take as long as I feel is necessary in doing all of this, until I reach a feeling of "completion" or just of being "done". (None of this is going on today, however.)
My working hours do not start until 11AM through the week, and I almost always putter around my home and garden happily until this time.
phrasal verb
puttered around; puttering around; putters around
US
: to spend time in a relaxed way doing small jobs and other things that are not very important
I soak up every bit of it too. I feel like I very much require the time to do this in order to function optimally. I have a real need for this to happen in my day, and I will get very disappointed if I'm unable to have this time for myself.
I might choose to pet and carry on a conversation with my cats. Or, I water and then admire my plants. I check out the local calendar of events, read my horoscope, rearrange what's on my desk, write like I am doing right now, read, listen to podcasts, organize different areas of my home...
Or sometimes, I might not do anything in particular at all, choosing to sit with my thoughts as they come to me instead. As I've mentioned before in an earlier post, riding with the currents of my life's happenings, however slow they may be, often lands me right in the middle of the most wonderful types of adventures.
I've discovered that I'm nearly always well prepared to begin my working day if I'm allowed to experience my long and luxurious morning of tending to my needs and whims. It is a luxury to fit this type of leisurely activity into my routine, even if only sometimes, I know. My gratitude just deepens the meaning of the work that I am able to do for my clients and myself.

Instead of an Action Item today, I'd love to instead offer you the following journaling prompts to explore during some time that you take for reflection. If you are able to perform a true Deep Dive into your life and business with these questions, all the better for you. But there's benefit in just considering your responses to them.
Reflection Prompts:
This week, notice where you're saying 'yes' when your energy is saying 'no' – what patterns do you see?
What would change in your business if you approached each task with the question 'How can this be easier?'
Observe your energy levels throughout your workday this week. When are you most creative? Most analytical? Most social?
Where in your business could you use more white space? What might open up if you created that space?
Sweet souls, as I wrap up this letter to you while watching the snow settle outside my window, I'm reminded that nature itself shows us the importance of different rhythms and seasons. Sometimes we need the quiet of a snow day, sometimes we need the burst of spring energy – and our businesses can honor these same cycles.
I share these intimate details of my morning routine not because I think you should copy it (please don't!), but to encourage you to listen to your own natural rhythms. To give yourself permission to create space for what truly serves you, even if it looks different from what the "business gurus" say you should do.
Maybe your version of "puttering" happens at midnight. Maybe your altar is a corner of your desk with one special crystal. Maybe your most productive hours are when the rest of the world is winding down. All of this is perfect, because it's authentically you.
I invite you to sit with those reflection prompts above. Let them guide you toward understanding your own unique flow. There's so much wisdom in your natural rhythms – wisdom that, when honored, can transform how you show up in your business and for your clients.
Until next week, may you give yourself permission to move at your own pace, to create space for what lights you up, and to trust that your way of doing business is exactly right for you.
With clarity & care,
♡ Cheniece P
